THE SENIOR AMERICA MISSION STATEMENT
The Ms Senior America Pageant is the world's first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to women who have reached the "Age of Elegance". It is a search for the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and inner beauty of all senior Americans. The Ms Senior America philosophy is based on the belief that seniors are the foundation of America, and our most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a better society.
Contestants are scored in four weighted categories: INTERVIEW and TALENT, 30% each, and EVENING GOWN and PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE, 20% each. Each contestants is given a raw score in each category from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest. Each contestant competes against herself, rather than being compared to other contestants. Thus, the criterion for each contestant is to score her relative to the best that the judge can imagine she could be in that category. More than one contestant may receive the same score in any particular category. Each category is judged independently. The Judges' Chairperson times each contestant and assesses a penalty to the weighted score of -3 points/judge to a contestant who exceeds the time limit set in the TALENT presentation and -2 points/judge in the PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE. In case of a tie, the highest INTERVIEW score wins. If still tied, TALENT, then PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE, then EVENING GOWN scores are used as tiebreakers in that order. This tie breaking procedure is also used for the top TEN finalists.
It is designed not only to enrich the lives of seniors but also to tap their energy to enrich the lives of others. Taking women from the Rocking Chair to the Runway!
Today's seniors seek personal growth through continuing education and community service in forums responsive to their special needs and lifestyles. The Ms Senior America LLC Pageant is a national organization that depends on sponsors and volunteers to continue to present the positive aspects of aging and to act as an educator. Sponsors include individuals, government agencies, private business, social and service organizations. The pageant allows sponsors to celebrate the vitality of today's senior woman and to applaud her accomplishments in the community, state and nation.
The Ms Senior America LLC Pageant is judged in two phases: the Preliminary Round and the Finals. In the Preliminary Round, each contestant receives a score, from one to ten, in each of the four categories - Interview - Inner Beauty (Philosophy of Life) - Evening Gown and Talent. Contest interviews are held in advance and the judges' scores for the Interview Category are submitted to the Chairperson and Tabulator. Preliminary Evening Gown, Philosophy of Life and Talent scores are reported by the judges as they view the contestants on stage. The scores are weighted and then added together, and the ladies who receive the top ten scores are announced as Finalists. Finalists enter the stage of the Final Round with their scores from their Interviews and are judged a second time on their Evening Gown, Philosophy of Life and Talent Presentations.
INTERVIEW -- Each contestant meets individually with a panel of judges. This is her opportunity to demonstrate her personality and conversational skill, and begins the judges' task of selecting the lady who best meets the ideals of Senior America.
INNER BEAUTY -- The Pageant recognizes physical fitness, but seeks to emphasize that true beauty is a matter of insight as well as eyesight. Each contestant shares her personal "Philosophy of Life" with the audiences so that the judges may develop an insight into each lady's own inner beauty. The thirty five second Philosophy statement isn't a biography, but rather the wisdom that the contestant wishes to share with the younger generation.
EVENING GOWN -- Ms Senior America LLC believes that the woman makes the clothes -- with her taste, style, and knowledge of what's right for her. During this event the judges seek the contestant whose poise and grace best illustrate the "Age of Elegance" not the price tag of the evening gown.
TALENT -- Ms Senior America LLC demonstrates that talent does not diminish with age, and should continue to be shared. Each contestant presents her talent within a specifically allotted time. In making your choices of talent be aware that Ms Senior America makes appearances in venues such as children's hospitals, schools, veterans' homes and the like. Your talent must be suitable for these type of establishments. Be aware that grandchildren may be in the audience. Make sure your choice is suitable for them. Respect for the time limit and choice of presentation shows that maturity can bring both creativity and good judgment.
